Have not heard summer tanager. Last time heard probably early August. What I think is a phoebe. Not sure if it is black or eastern, though... Eastern Bluebirds. Red-Bellied Woodpecker

Picture 48, which I said was probably a garter snake, was in fact, a garter snake; a western ribbon snake, to be more specific.
The first and third are Mississippi kites. The mushroom is (probably) a green-spored parasol. At any rate, it's safest to assume it is, since it looks similar to an edible mushroom, but is poisonous. All the other flying birds are vultures. The pink bird is a female cardinal, and the little gray fledging thing is probably also a cardinal. The last three pictures are a goatweed leafwing, apparently. And the blue flower is a dayflower. And the fly is a fly. You aren't going insane; flies are still flies.
Saw a copperhead; kind of. It was late, and their camouflage, even on rocks, is very, very effective. At first it looked like a hopping toad, then like some sort of crab/lobster, and finally, a striking snake (It was fighting with our dog). Well, actually, at first it looked like the dog was barking at nothing.
Visited Mohawk State Park and the Arkansas River near the Gathering Place.
Mohawk State Park has nice plants, scenery, geese, and dragonflies.
The Arkansas River has night-herons, herons, ducks, geese, snakes, and some plants. And Emily has hawk eyes, seeing a heron on the other side of Lake Yahola. The pictures of him were the very blurry far away ones. |
