Traits: Feathers under the eye

​Boxelder Maple - a young gander of my flock developed unusual white feathers underneath his eye. It does not appear to be the same as the other eye. I do not think this trait serves any purpose or affects the goose in any way.

Like other geese with traits such as unusual markings Boxelder has a more prominent trait on one side of his face than the other. Boxelder has a few siblings and one of them - Zelkova - has a white spot of feathers under one of her eyes. I believe this could possibly get more obvious as she matures. 

I will keep an eye on these two and see what happens next. Since Boxelder and Zelkova both have this trait it seems genetic. I have looked at pictures of their parents and their parents' parents and have seen no signs of the trait which Boxelder has but it could be even further back. Luckily, I can further evidence of this being a possible genetic trait with the help of their two younger siblings.
